Reviews
Only went for breakfast. Best southern breakfast I had in years. Biscuits and gravy were plentiful and delicious.
Grits were instant but delicious.
Eggs were good.
Want to go for lunch. The service was fast. The counter was patient to answer questions in between the many people she was serving.
Coffee was good but not strong. But that's not why one goes there. I really want to get the sandwiches next time.
The price point is awesome for families.
My son absolutely loved everything. He was also interested in the work trucks and different trades coming in.
We finally had a chance to check this place out and are glad we did.
We went through the drive-thru, which was very busy at the time, but they did a good job of clearing it in a timely manner.
We tried a Chili Cheese Dog and a Chili Slaw Dog.
Both were okay. Very straightforward.
This is a good option for the area, and it is worth checking out, especially if you're looking for something family-friendly.
If you walk up to a counter service breakfast restaurant and there are lines of blue collar guys waiting ahead of you, you know you are going to get good tasting, affordable food, served fast but friendly. They don’t care much about the atmosphere, but that in and of itself speaks to the charm. Chili Dog is this place.
The biscuits are one Memaw called cat head. They are tender and buttery. The bacon is smoky and cooked crisp. The egg was an egg. One biscuit was a shareable size for me. For about the same price as fast food you will get higher quality and flavor.
The cinnamon roll looked the part, golden and fluffy, swimming in a little pool of icing. But it falters after the initial bite. It is somehow packed full of cinnamon but lacks any spiced flavor. The icing is abundant but without any richness. The dough is very bread like and not that “doughy in a good way” you want cinnamon rolls to be. And it has a distinct chemical-y aftertaste that I suspect might be coming from bulk bought cinnamon. Canned cinnamon rolls would be more satisfying. I really wanted to like this, but it was just weird.
The sweet tea was perfect and the Coca Cola was exceptionally good. The service was friendly and super fast on a Saturday morning. The dining area small and rustic but charming in its own way.
I hope to make it back for lunch on my next trip to the area.
We loved this place. It looks so humble and unassuming but it's been one of our favorite places on the road.
The food is amazing.
One day we had brunch. Our favorite dish was the Bad Dog - a hotdog covered with chili, cheese, and slaw. 😮
This place is actually really known for its breakfast. So a couple days later we came back. We got biscuits and gravy, and a cinnamon roll. Both were amazing. The biscuits were so soft and the gravy had just a slight pepper taste and wasn't too runny like so many other places. We also got a couple of biscuits but can't remember the name of them.
There is some parking in the back.
They can be busy but the service is so fast. For example, we went there around 9 in the morning and I don't remember seeing the drive thru line ever empty. Even drivers of big trucks will just park on the main road, in the turn lane, while they walk in to order. Despite a steady stream of customers coming in to order, I set a timer for a couple of them and they each had their food within a couple minutes. Another couple had their drink and biscuit within 1 minute from ordering. I was blown away.
We also got to meet the owners learn a little about them and hear how they donate to the community. She said they're listening to customers who have mentioned ways the restaurant can be more environmentally conscious. For example, they served some of our food in biodegradable containers which you can see in some of the pictures and videos. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well and it seemed like they knew a lot of the customers.
It really is a hidden gem. We'd love to come back.
This is the quintessential hole in the wall restaurant with the best people and the best food! An absolute must if you’re visiting the Ellijay area.
We’ve been back here multiple times and have enjoyed every item we’ve ordered. The cinnamon rolls are a must.
We love the Philly Cheesesteak, the biscuits and the breakfast burritos!
One of the best things about this place is the staff! The owners are incredible, just read the other reviews and replies to the reviews and you’ll see that the owners go out of their way to accommodate everyone. And their employees are every bit of the nicest small town people you’ll ever meet. They simply are great people you’ll be glad you met.
Finally, the prices here seem like they haven’t been updated in 25 or 30 years. Taking our entire family of 8 here was super affordable!
We highly recommend stopping here to get a fantastic small town hole in the wall good ole southern home style cooking!
If you’re near Ellijay, you have to eat here! We had lunch one day (Philly cheesesteak) and breakfast the next. Both were delicious and great prices too. Definitely get a cinnamon roll.
Had a GREAT breakfast at the Chilli Dog this morning. The food was hot, fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. Honestly, I paid more than twice for the same meal at another Ellijay restaurant, yesterday. This is a place where the locals go to eat and a must stop for breakfast.
Damn good biscuits! When you drive by, the shack doesn’t look like much but the line of cars tells you everything you need to know. The biscuits are huge and melt in your mouth. So light and fluffy and buttery. The food comes out hot and fresh. We ordered sausage, egg and cheese biscuits for breakfast and they were everything you want them to be. We even went back for 2nds. The fried bologne sandwich was also a hit with the kids. Biscuits and gravy was also delicious.
